Julia Fiona Roberts was born in Atlanta on October 28, 1967 in the home of Betty Lou Bredemus and Walter Grady Roberts. She belongs to the Robertses' fourth generation that live in the Atlanta region, beginning from her maternal grandfather John Pendleton Roberts a farmer. Her father was a young man when he started to be interested in the theater. While being a student at Emory University, he performed on stage in various productions around Atlanta. While stationed at Biloxi in Mississippi, he got cast as a soldier in the play of Betty Lou Bredemus. The couple got married in the year 1955. Their daughter, Eric Anthony, was born in 1956. Walter as well as his spouse resigned from their Air Force service in the year 1957 after which they began enrolment with Walter as a student at Tulane University. The family relocated in 1960 into Decatur Georgia where Walter began working for Atlanta's Academy Theater and the Harrington Scenic and Lighting Studio. In 1964 Walter and Betty Lou began production on the local Saturday morning children's television show called Bum Bum and His Buddies which they funded by themselves. In the following year, they established the Actors and Writers Workshop which continued for six seasons. They also had Lelisa Billingsley (also called Lisa) and Julia (also known as Julie) throughout this time.
